Chinese Painting on Sketch Paper
Chinese ink is not pigment. It has five colours: Coke ink, thick ink, heavy ink, light ink and light grey ink. The main materials are carbon black, pine-wood soot, glue with precious traditional Chinese medicine and spices etc. Ink is ground with inkstone water to produce ink for painting, which exists in colloidal solution in water. Carbon black is the main material of ink in Chinese paintings and charcoal in Western sketch. Because sketch is preconceived, my works are easily mistaken for sketch. The difference between my Brush painting and charcoal drawing: one is wet and soft brush, one is dry and hard; one can not be erased, one may be erased; one features five colors of ink, other form five difference owing to the intensity of light. The effects of visual art is similar maybe at a quick glance but not similar if look carefully. It’s a Chinese painting with new materials, new techniques and new vision which the Xuan paper and mounting is abandoned.
